THE SOCIAL NETWORK MOVIE QUESTIONS' ANSWERS

THE SOCIAL NETWORK MOVIE
  1. Mark really wanted to become one of the elite people. As a result of this, he became a bit of brassy to his girlfriend that made her decide to end their relationship which Mark was not prepared for.
  2. Mark got in trouble for creating FaceMash because he broke the Harvard University's software which has all the student's information such as their pictures and used it for his website.
  3. When Mark created one of his sites that is dedicated to music and can be downloaded for free instead of selling it to Microsoft for millions of dollars, it just proves that Mark is not doing all these websites to make money, but because he loves doing it.
  4. HarvardConnection is dedicated only for students who go to Harvard University unlike MySpace and Friendster they're both open publicly. In order for anyone to use HarvardConnection, one must have an account from school.
  5. Mark was sure a smart guy, but he didn't have a lot of friends back then. He created facebook so that elite people would know him. Mark's motivation is different to the Winklevoss twins because he was really dedicated on this website. He was giving most of his time every day to complete and perfect his website, unlike the twins, they were all just about planning.
  6. Mark and Eduardo's friendship is brother-like. They tell each other things they are concern about. They go out with girls together and ask each other for help. Unfortunately, it stopped. It was because of Mark. When he betrayed his friend by almost kicking him out of the company. He was the reason why Eduardo's share dropped to 0.4%.
  7. Mark got the idea about including relationship status on Facebook profiles when his friend asked him about the girl he likes and Mark told him that how would he know. There's not like a tag on her that says if she's taken or not. So, he added the relationship status on facebook so that when someone checks someone else's profile, they would know their relationship status.
  8. Mark didn't want to put advertisements on Facebook because he said that it's not cool.
  9. Mark decided to expand the sites to other schools after his meeting with Erica. It seems like he wanted to prove Erica something because he felt insulted about what Erica told him.
  10. People are drawn to the idea of broadcasting their personal life on the internet because they want to express what they feel. The Internet is like some sort of diary. People put whatever go to their heads without actually realizing that a lot of people are seeing it.
  11. Typed words are powerful because you can never remove things that you put out on the internet as soon as people see it. You may have deleted it on the social media, but never in the minds of people who have seen it. People are tempted to misuse the power of the internet because it is the easier way of releasing out the anger or other emotions other than telling it to a friend because they can argue with you if you are wrong.
  12. Sean Parker is an entrepreneur who founded Napster, a popular music player/ downloader years ago. He was the one who helped Mark by introducing him to big companies who are behind the  application or website and helped improve Facebook company.
  13. The themes of coolness and money are the key themes in this movie. These are the most important things to Sean Parker and he knows he can convince Mark that he can make him the richest and most popular person. Mark initially did not seem motivated by money, but that changed. They were once nerds and now they had power, women, etc. This made them cool.
  14. Facebook encourages us to define ourselves. We create profiles so that we can identify ourselves with a certain group or groups of people. For example, where we live, go to school, work and who we hang out with. People look at profiles and posts and make assumptions about people based on those things even without really knowing them.
  15.  Mark cheat on his Art class final exam using Facebook by creating a page because they have a Postwar Art exam and he hasn’t been going to school. The page enables him to post the pictures of the painting, that they need to write something about, and people comment about it, there will be a great debate, and through that he could get the answers for it.
  16. The Winklevoss twins were finally convinced to sue Mark for intellectual theft when they learned that Facebook is already expanding like in Cambridge, Oxford, and others.
  17. Eduardo is Mark’s best friend and he gave Mark money. Eduardo has the right to mistrust Sean because he likes to party.  Increasingly dissatisfied with Eduardo, Mark decides to push him out of the company. To do so he does a major stock issue, increasing the total number of shares of Facebook stock available. While he, Moskowitz, and Thiel all get more shares of stock, Eduardo retains the same number of shares he originally had. Since there are more overall shares this means that Eduardo controls far less of the company than he did originally. Eduardo's share of the company went from 33%, second only to Mark's 51%, down to an insignificant 0.03%, effectively removing him as a power within the company. This enraged Eduardo and he sued Mark, settling for an undisclosed amount of money out of court and having his name restored as co-founder of the site.
  18. The film makes Mark look like a self-centered, unemotional person. He seems to care for his ex-girlfriend Erica but he constantly insults her. He doesn’t seem to understand that he is obnoxious and that other person may not care about all the money he has or being in the most elite group.
  19. My experiences with Facebook has been great because it helps me connect with other people instantly and it’s an easy way to communicate with other people. The benefits of it’s easier to talk to other people even if they’re far away from you. A drawback of Facebook might be the privacy because they can access everything you have posted on Facebook even your messages.
  20. Facebook has had a huge impact on our culture because it is the way most people communicate. If you are not on Facebook you will feel like you don’t know what’s going on. Since Facebook is the easiest way to reach a large group of people, most people use it to plan parties. If you are not on Facebook you will feel disconnected or may be excluded from events. I don’t think I know anyone who doesn’t use Facebook even though some people prefer to use different social media.
  21. I really enjoyed the film. The film made me feel sad for Mark. Even though the film shows how he becomes the youngest billionaire, I think the film portrayed Mark as a very shallow and unhappy person and a bit mad because he betrayed his friends

TOMBOY TRADES

  1. Marissa McTasney was 32 years old when she started her very own company. Marissa named her company "Tomboy Trades " as she wanted it to be plain yet appealing to women.
  2. Marissa's company Tomboy Trades offers work wear for women from boots, tool belts, hard hats, and even safety glasses all in female-friendly sizes, style, and colors such as pale pink, baby blue and other more.
  3. When Marissa was buying her pair of working boots for her training at the Centre for Skills Development and Training in Burlington , she was not pleased about the colors and the styles that were available. So she searched everywhere in GTA stores and on the online shops looking for pink work boots but failed to do so. She then later found a reputable manufacturer in China to custom make it for her and ship it to her home.
  4. Marissa was able to strike a deal with a known retailer, Home Depot. She was, fortunately, able to put her products to market with the help of the president of the retailer. Annette Verschuren was smitten when she has tried the pair of pink working boots that Marissa sent to her. Verschuren, the president of Hope depot helped Marissa develop her female-friendly work boots and from that moment, the products of Marissa have quickly become one of the most popular work apparel lines in Home depot.
  5. More than about 50% is the estimated rate of women that make up the "do-it-yourselfer" market.
  6. The main reason why Marissa's decision to leave her job at IBM because she just had a labor of her daughter 2 years ago and she also has 4 years old son. As a mother of young children, she, of course, wanted to work with more flexible hours so she instead decided to pursue her passion for home renovations. When she was buying herself work boots, that's when she first had the concept about the female-friendly work wears.
  7. Alongside selling female colored and sized boots, Marissa also added other work gears to her product lines such as tool belts, hard hats, t-shirts, and tinted safety glasses all in feminine color and styles
  8. Marissa is planning to expand her business into the U.S. market along with Britain and Australia. She is also introducing a men's line called Tough trades offering tan and black colors for both sexes and possibly develop a line for kids who also like to have fun building birdhouses and dollhouses.
  9. Marissa’s business decisions are influenced by so much positive feedback she received that she considered expanding her clothing line. Expanding business is a risky step in the business industry.
  10. Based on what products Marissa is selling. It is certainly obvious that the target market of her clothing line are women. She came up with this idea of business because she thinks women should be able to express their fashion on the work field they're in. She had the opportunity to let all other women on the same field as her feel the way she wanted to feel in a field commonly for men so she grasped it.
  11. Marissa demonstrated entrepreneurial characteristics such as open-minded, optimistic and risk taker. She came up with this idea of business because she believed that women should be able to express themselves as a woman even in a job field ordinarily for men. Expanding her business is showing that she is also a risk taker.
  12. I think that service like a spa should be a guy thing too. To have a perfect moment of relaxation, a good warm foot spa will always be very efficient. As well as a nail salon, men should try it too, they might like it. Not only it is for hygiene purpose but also for relaxation and to say that they are giving value to their body. Nail salon does not necessarily mean that they have to put nail polish in it. There should be a salon dedicated to men so that they would feel less awkward.
  13. the demographics played a huge role in making of Marissa's business because her products are only for women. If there aren't many women that got interested in her products, her products for sure would not be as popular as it is today.

THE THREE BLONDES

  1. Ms. Piatka had a vision in her mind that her little business of low-fat muffins had gotten bigger that she developed herself in her Edmonton kitchen. She imagined trucks after trucks of her products supplying markets.
  2. Ms. Piatka began to fulfill her entrepreneurial thought when she appeared as a guest on a morning TV show where she discussed her low-fat recipes and met one of her business partners later on who was the TV host of the show that Piatka guested on, Ms. Meyer for they have both seen a business opportunity. The two ladies soon recruited Ms. Meyer's best friend, Ms. Brinsmead who was once a bank manager. The success after the three blondes worked together was quick. The company's income hit $100,000 when they convinced McDonald's to try on their products in their first year. After many years, they hit the revenue of $2.3 million and their progress has continued when they supplied more markets throughout Canada.
  3. The customer's need of having healthier food choice while meeting the customer's want of having savory food are what the venture of the three blondes have to consider to achieve the goal for their venture.
  4. The venture of the Three Blondes focused on the category of Bricks and Mortar or physical. To achieve what they were focusing on, they began developing their fat wise products to stood up against other baking business. They proved that the products that they make are not just healthy but also tasty. They did not only concentrated on improving their goods to be health efficient but also appetizing at the same time.
  5. In my opinion, the most unique named companies or businesses tend to be more successful than the others because of their catchy names. People are more into trying uncommon things. For example, Starbucks. Compared to other local coffee shops, Starbucks has stood up because of its name. If Starbucks is compared against a local coffee shop that has named "something coffee shop" yet has the same good taste as Starbucks, people will choose Starbucks over that commonly named coffee shop because of the shop's name. It Is not only all about the quality of goods but also the attention that the company's name is getting to have a successful business.

6. “Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago.”
7. “Opportunities don't happen. You create them.”
8. “The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched -- they must be felt with the heart.”
9. “All progress takes place outside the comfort zone.”
10. “Success is not final, failure is not fatal; it is the courage to continue that counts.”
11. “The starting point of all achievement is desire.”
12. “If you don’t value your time, neither will others. Stop giving away your time and talents.” Value what you know & start charging for it.”
13. "It is better to fail in originality than to succeed in imitation."
14. "Success usually comes to those who are too busy to be looking for it."
15. "Successful people do what unsuccessful people are not willing to do. Don't wish it were easier; wish you were better."
16. “Try not to become a man of success. Rather become a man of value."

18. "Don't let the fear of losing be greater than the excitement of winning."
19. "The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today."
20. "Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful."
21. "If you can dream it, you can do it."
22. "I never dreamed about success, I worked for it."
23. "Keep on going, and the chances are that you will stumble on something, perhaps when you are least expecting it. I never heard of anyone ever stumbling on something sitting down."
24. “Every  accomplishment starts with the decision to try.”
25. “The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today.”

(PART 2)
A quote like “The starting point of all achievement is desire” can benefit my life because if I live by this quote, it will become a lot easier for me to achieve my goal in the future. If I love what I am planning for my future, a problem such as finding a preparation for that career boring will never happen. For instance, if I choose to become a doctor because I  want the money that a doctor earns and does not really have the will to what doctors do, I will for sure not become successful on that particular field . Throughout the process of picking all the sciences and giving myself a hard time, I will plainly not make it to the end but also waste all the time, opportunities and effort to things I am not eager about. Passion is what brings you to success, not the desire of money.

Being confident about myself that I can be whatever I want to be will give me the determination to continue working hard for it. A quote like “All progress takes place outside the comfort zone” is one example that I have to believe that I am capable of doing things I am scared to try and must be done in order to have the career I want to have. For example, if I want to be an accountant, I shouldn't be frightened to take tough courses such as functions and other mathematics or accounting- related courses just  because I've heard people crying over its difficulty. I have to believe myself that I can get the mark I need and want because it is for the sake of my dream. The person that gives up easily does not get what the person wants and leaves him/her regretting of not picking lifting himself/herself  from the ocean of fear when the dream is not achieved.

Success does not come overnight. I have to work for it step by step. step by step meaning I have to assume this early of my level in education that I am already working hard on my dream. If I do not study well this year because I am thinking that it does not matter because I am only in grade 11 then I would have a hard time in a few years from now achieving my goal. I only need to find what I really want and will never find things too difficult about doing it. One of some things I have to consider to live by from now on for my success in the future is“The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today.”
